Show and Tell: Chapter 5 Response

"How can you think carefully about not losing the reader and still be carefree about his opinion?" The book says to strive for order, yet still express who you are. Are you writing for you or should you consider what others think?

These are great questions but I find this all completely frustrating. In the end it comes down to your personality. There is no right answer because everyone has their own sense of writing style and everyone enjoys different reading material. While it so important to interest your readers, sometimes you simply won't.

I currently have this issue for another class. I am to write a 'front of book' piece about an upcoming event for a magazine. I have chosen to write about a marathon taking place in Gettysburg. Hypothetically, the piece would go in Gettysburg Magazine, which a wide range of personalities read. How can I can grab everyone's attention? Most are probably not runners and would not want to participate but how do I make it interesting and get them to attend as a spectator? So many things to think about...
